Blue Carbon Webinar with Faircarbon
Revisiting my post on challenges in blue carbon development in Baja California Sur
My post titled “The False Promise of Blue Carbon” has gotten more attention than any other I’ve written to date. I’ve heard from other developers who said it was refreshing to read something honest about the market, and who are going through identical challenges and experiences. I’ve heard from investors and platforms and NGOs who said it made them rethink some of their processes. All in all, I hope it helps move things toward greater viability.
One of the followups I’ve done was a webinar with Faircarbon, a non-profit based in Europe dedicated to supporting blue carbon projects and restoration of blue ecosystems. Here’s the video, in which I go into a lot more detail on processes we followed and how this all turned up, along with discussion from Edit Kiss of Capital Continuum Advisors, who has sat on the other side of the table for many carbon projects.
Another result of that original article was an invitation to speak on a panel at the LARIS2025 summit in Bogotá last week. Here’s yours truly holding forth on a panel on pathways to building regenerative blue economies (lots more to come on that subject in future posts). I was deeply impressed with the quality of work I saw being done by land managers who attended this conference, and I’ve never been in a room with so many other agroforestry practitioners. It was an awesome conference and a lovely trip and I hope to go back next year.
My upcoming posts on sharing vs sparing are still in draft, but getting delayed by a feasibility study i’m writing for a client and some potential other clients i may ahve coming onboard.
